Day of Rest

The craft fair was great fun. I always enjoy meeting new creative people. Compliments were aplenty. What a talented bunch. I was very impressed.

My friend, from Texas, surprised me by showing up at the fair with his family in tow. Afterwards we all spent the evening together in Pasadena with another close friend. Jammed in the music room, had dinner, talked and laughed awhole lot. What a perfect way to end the evening. Boy am I tired.

Today I really need to sit down and post receipts, gotta keep the books updated. As I sit here and stare at the stack of receipts; am I really prepared to do this? A dip in the pool sounds better, although the water is still too cold. That inner voice speaks loud and clear, "Oh come on just do it, get it over with." Take a deep breath and start posting.

Generations of Embroidery

Unfortunately for me I never got to meet my grandmother; she passed before I was born.

According to my mother, I have the same hobbies as my grandmother did. Mother gets sad sometimes when she thinks about my grandmother and me and how we would have had so much fun sharing ideas, sewing, embroidering or working in the garden.

As for the embroidery hobby we share; grandmother used the single thread method, which is what the Chinese used to create their delicate masterpieces. Myself, I have no patience, I use the whole floss as is.

Fellow embroiderers have told me that I have a very unique style, imagine my amazement. I am self-taught, just started stitching not really knowing what the hell I was doing. Maybe my grandmother has been guiding me the whole time because for someone who didn't know what she was doing it looks pretty good.

Great for me because I can not imagine someone telling me it is wrong. How could anything a person creates be wrong? To each his own, create away I say, someone will like it.

Apparently, my grandmother smoked cigars and cigarettes, which I guess was quite common for her generation? I laugh everytime I think about that. Check out the picture of her with a cigarette in her mouth as she pulls laundry from the line in her yard.

Updating All The Time

Today's goal is to update and refresh etsy listings.

Trying to start a small business is more than a full-time job.

People have started emailing me for advice! The wonderful part is that I can actually offer some solid advice at this point.

I have been living this all day, everyday for months. Getting all the kinks worked out along the way. Reading advice from other bloggers and fellow etsy creators, on the "how to's and don'ts". Constant reading, reviewing, updating photos and editing.

I haven't had time to sit down and actually create. I have cut out patterns; they are ready to be sewn or embroidered.

Hopefully by tonight I can get into the studio and put some new items together.

When I say I need two of me, it is really true!

My etsy shop featured on the front page

Received a great message from etsy letting me know my shop was featured on the front page!

Do you realize how many people have an etsy shop!? It is so easy to get lost in the mix, with people listing new items every minute of the day. If you have not recently listed an item, your store gets pushed further back in the queue.

This is so encouraging. I have been working very hard to get the etsy site off the ground.

To know that I did something right to get my shop noticed is complete satisfaction. Thank you etsy!

And So Work Begins Again

Had a great day off from everything sewing related.

My mind is now refreshed and popping with new ideas. I love it when that happens.

Sometimes taking the time to refresh is just what the doctor ordered.

Now, I wish I had two or three of me to get the new ideas from just that, "new ideas" to finished products.

Oh a crafters work is never done.

Finishing Up

I can finally start to relax a bit and get out of the sewing studio.

I finished the last of the hand-embroidered purses for my next craft fair on April 24th. Signed up for my local artwalk (which by the way is today) but in light of the fact that I am dead tired, I am going to pass this go 'round.

Next month maybe.

Right now I am going to get out of the house and away from anything sewing related.

Blog is Coming Along

Little by little, day by day, I am getting the hang of this blog thing. New things are being added daily--looking good!
